In this AI Agent & Copilot Podcast Special Report, filmed on location at the recent AI Agent & Copilot Summit, John Siefert is joined by Dewain Robinson, principal program manager, Microsoft, to discuss his sessions from the event, focused on best practices, practical applications of Copilot Studio, and when to leverage Copilot Studio versus Azure AI Foundry.

AI Agent & Copilot Summit is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents. Building on its 2025 success, the 2026 event takes place March 17-19 in San Diego. Get more details.

Key Takeaways

  • Copilot Studio vs Azure AI Foundry: For many users, a challenge lies in their tendency to compare different technologies directly. However, Microsoft views its tools as complementary building blocks that, when combined, offer enhanced capabilities and customizability. “What you’ll find is that when you combine the things together, you get the powerhouse capabilities that you get out of Azure AI Foundry, in conjunction with the orchestration and the commodity components that get you time to market the value out of Copilot Studio,” explains Robinson.
  • Practical use cases: During another session at AI Agent & Copilot Summit, Robinson demonstrated practical applications of various features, including (for the first time) the new Copilot Studio publishing to M365 Copilot as a Copilot agent Copilot Agent and the generative orchestration feature, which launched into general availability on March 17th. This was the first public showcase of these features.
  • Best practices: Further, Robinson shared best practices and lessons learned from working on some of the largest global implementations. This session highlighted key insights to avoid common pitfalls and ensure successful outcomes, which emphasized the importance of staying updated with the latest practices.
  • Community efforts: Participating in Microsoft’s corporate events enables engagement through one-on-one discussions with attendees, hearing of their unique scenarios, and being able to offer tailored advice. The most rewarding aspect is seeing the impact of his assistance, as evidenced by feedback and videos from people he’s helped. “When it comes to the community work, it’s mainly just to get that word out there and help people build better things,” Robinson noted.
  • Connect further: As a principal program manager at Microsoft, Robinson initially started recording videos to share insights and solutions more broadly, which led to the creation of his YouTube channel, The Copilot Studio Dude. He explains that this platform allows him to gather valuable feedback that helps drive the direction of the Copilot Studio product, enhancing its development and user experience.
