Microsoft is upgrading its AI-powered Finance Agent with centralized views of financial activity and support for natural language queries of financial data.
Finance Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot helps teams reason over their finance data, coordinate decisions and take automated actions. Because it’s designed around core finance workflows and grounded in ERP data, financial data, insights, and actions are connected within the flow of work.
New Workspace, New Experience
Finance Agent’s new features are Home workspace, which provides a centralized, role-specific view of financial performance, and Chat, which supports the use of natural language so finance pros can transition from receiving insight to taking action.
With Home workspace, users access up-to-date financial insights specific to their role while required permissions and context are applied. Operating as a central financial command dashboard, Home workspace proactively surfaces vital metrics, emerging risks, and items requiring attention. A finance pro can use the Home workspace to identify variances that impact the accuracy of a forecast while a business unit leader can monitor performance against targets — all without the need to reconcile multiple reports from separate systems.
Meantime, the Finance Agent’s Chat experience makes it more straightforward for finance leaders to interact with financial data, using natural language to investigate performance, resolve issues, or execute next steps in a process.
They do so by entering Microsoft 365 Copilot prompts. Examples of such prompts could include:
- Analyze this project report and help identify factors causing the variance between budget and actuals
- In order to respond to this customer’s question about an unpaid invoice, I need their transaction history and unmatched invoices to be identified
- Help assess this new vendor’s compliance with our onboarding requirements and update the vendor’s record if they meet those requirements
Together, Home workspace and Chat experience are intended to support faster, more informed decision-making with corporate financial data.
Foundational Features
The latest features build on core functions of the Finance Agent that include:
- Financial reconciliation, which identifies unmatched transactions, surfaces exceptions, and guides resolution
- Variance analysis, which identifies key drivers and produces structured summaries that support faster decision-making and stakeholder alignment; these are particularly important considerations when performance deviates from expectations.
- Financial data preparation, which automatically cleanses, standardizes, and enriches data to ensure it’s ready for reconciliation and analysis
Home workspace and Chat experience are available in public preview.
