Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Update. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI. In today’s episode, I analyze the evolution of the customer journey in the AI era.
Highlights
0:42 — The traditional marketing approach involves creating buyer personas and customer scorecards, which involved a linear journey from awareness to decision-making. Today, there’s an ongoing shift in customer behavior, where buyers now rely on AI tools like LLMs for research, reducing the need for extensive website browsing, highlighting the importance of optimizing websites for AI-driven search engines to ensure visibility and relevance.
1:49 — There’s a concept of the “zero-click problem,” where AI provides full answers without users clicking through to search results. There’s a decline in the effectiveness of traditional SEO strategies, as content is often not seen or attributed correctly in AI-driven searches. This means the traditional marketing funnel is outdated, with sales entering the picture much later in the customer journey. Companies need to focus on differentiation, deep content, and schema optimization to succeed in the AI era.
3:25 — I recommend three critical areas to road test: the strength of the differentiation and value proposition, the depth of website content, and the effectiveness of schema optimization for AI tools. It’s important to have a strong value proposition that resonates with self-serve buyers. Companies need to ensure their website content is comprehensive and well-structured to attract and retain customers.
