An AI-powered starter kit that unifies data from core Microsoft data and analytics platforms enables customers to detect business disruptions – such as those in supply chains – then analyze them and respond.
The new Microsoft IQ Solution Accelerator brings together signals across functions including customer data, product, inventory, sales, and supply chains to detect risks early, assess their impact, and align response efforts across the various functions.
Its components make up an intelligence layer unifying:
- Fabric IQ data, semantic models, and ontologies. An ontology is a machine-understandable vocabulary of the business including entity types, their properties, and ways they connect.
- Enterprise knowledge and retrieval in Foundry IQ
- Context and workflow orchestration in Work IQ
In a supply chain undergoing supplier disruptions, for example, teams can use the software to assess risk and current inventory levels, evaluate sourcing options, and coordinate actions to ensure continuity of supply and protect product availability.
Here’s how this will function in practice:
The Microsoft 365 Copilot component is the user interface. The Copilot Studio Agent serves as an ingress point unifying all the components, orchestrating workflows in response to disruption signals so teams can triage issues and respond quickly. It does so by coordinating sub‑agents, people, and workflows to validate disruptions, align stakeholders, and spark action.
Foundry Chat Agent is a document-based question answering system that reasons over supplier contracts, service-level agreements, lead times, policies, and historical performance to evaluate potential sourcing and replanning paths that can help business leaders manage through disruptions.
The Fabric component implements a data lakehouse architecture with semantic modeling, an ontology-based Fabric data agent supporting natural language queries, and interactive dashboards for supply chain management. Fabric’s Ontology Data Agent works with the Copilot Studio Agent Workflow to answer questions about customers, products, inventory, suppliers, and demand forecasts so supply chain teams can understand various scenarios before decisions are made.
The new intelligence layer reflects recognition by Microsoft that customers need more than retrieval functions from AI, said Dhruv Thanawala, data analyst at Orion Innovation, in a LinkedIn post. “The ontology aspect is especially important,” he said. “Instead of having an agent look only at tables, columns, or document chunks, it can now work with real business entities and relationships…AI needs more than just retrieval. It also needs semantics, relationships, business context, and orchestration.”
