Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Update. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI; today’s focus is on a recent, highly practical AI assistant use case that helped resolve a pressing business problem quickly.

Highlights

00:26 —I recently received a critical alert about Microsoft Fabric capacity reaching 100%. Users reported issues with Power BI, including slow reports and non-refreshing dashboards, indicating a significant problem. The traditional troubleshooting process would involve support tickets, searching for specialists, and manual log analysis, which can take days. I decided to try a different approach: connecting an AI assistant directly to the operational data, instead of becoming a Fabric expert myself.

02:08 — Within an hour, the AI assistant analyzed over 94,000 activity events from a single day, providing specific workspaces and jobs responsible for the capacity issue. The AI identified a workspace with four Power BI models refreshing up to 49 times per day, consuming significant compute resources. Another workspace from a smaller part of the business was found to be running over 1,700 compute jobs daily. These findings were communicated to the workspace owners, who immediately adjusted their schedules and processes, restoring normal capacity and resolving user complaints.

03:28 — AI didn’t fix anything, but it compressed what could have been a multi-day investigation into about an hour. The need for experts is still present but the AI agent allowed me to handle a critical situation without relying on outside consultants and lengthy manual processes.
