Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Minute. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI; today’s focus is new Microsoft Fabric Apps and the Rayfin software development kit (SDK).

Highlights

00:24 — My experience to date indicates the importance of data being in Fabric for effective AI integration into the Microsoft stack. But even with data properly stored in Fabric, there are challenges in deploying AI apps. In the the process of building a small app, such as a dashboard, there are subsequent issues with app deployment, including access and authentication. Fabric Apps are a solution that addresses these deployment gaps.

02:21 — Fabric Apps automatically build a real database, working API, and authentication through existing Microsoft accounts. The app is hosted with a live URL, and the user doesn’t need to set up any of these components manually. Plus, there’s flexibility to use different AI coding tools, such as Claude and Codex, with Fabric Apps. This contrasts with the traditional method of setting up Azure web apps, which were designed for standalone applications.

04:06 — I’m currently testing Fabric Apps with my FP&A director on a real use case and have a positive impression; Fabric Apps might be the right place for both data and AI apps. I don’t have a final verdict yet but I’m optimistic about the potential of Fabric Apps.
