AI Creates Opportunity for Leaders To Focus on Jobs That Create Value for Customers

Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Update. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI. In today’s episode, I continue my analysis of AI adoption trends.

Highlights

0:32 — The “gray zone” is a period where AI’s impact is profound but not fully understood, leading to anxiety and uncertainty. AI’s arrival has significantly altered economic participation, leading to tech layoffs and changing business rules. Business leaders need to navigate the gray zone by redefining work and roles within organizations.

2:52 — AI has led to various responses: some embrace it, some enable it, while others remain silent or are harmed. The gray zone is the space between these roles, where choices feel compromised. Microsoft partners often focus on technology, but they need to consider the broader impact on work and roles. The conversation should start with understanding the value of jobs and how AI can enhance them, rather than immediately jumping to technology.

4:30 — Rapid adoption of AI is comparable to the shift from interoffice memos to email. Business leaders need to focus on jobs that create value for customers and enhance them with AI. The goal is to create a more efficient organization that improves customer outcomes. Premiums will be placed on critical thinking and judgment over execution, as AI automates more tasks.

6:23 — Business leaders need to take responsibility for designing AI systems that people can trust. Leaders need to step up in 2026 to address these issues and optimize AI quietly but effectively.
