Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Minute. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI; today’s focus is the shifting role of enterprise software in the AI era.
Highlights
00:24 — Microsoft Copilot does not just add AI; it fundamentally changes how enterprise software operates. Traditional enterprise software followed a passive model where humans interacted with the system but now, software is becoming proactive: applications are suggesting actions rather than just providing data.
00:57 — Microsoft software is designed to influence decisions, providing insights before users act.
Power Platform’s ability to monitor workflows and Azure’s capability to surface insights before users open dashboards are good examples. The system is no longer passive; it actively participates and suggests actions, showing agent-like behavior.
01:48 — Microsoft’s unique position is that it controls identity, productivity, business applications, and cloud infrastructure. When intelligence runs across this entire stack, it creates a decision layer embedded throughout the enterprise. This means the focus should be on redefining enterprise software — from systems that store information to systems that shape judgment. I expect more business applications will be embedded with AI agents, enhancing their decision-making capabilities.
