Welcome to the AI Agent & Copilot Podcast, analyzing the latest AI Copilot and agent developments from Microsoft and its partners, delving into customer use cases, and exploring how AI plus the Cloud helps customers reimagine their business.

In this episode, Tom Smith talks with two speakers about their upcoming “AI and Security, Legal Challenges & Policy Considerations” session at AI Agent & Copilot Summit:

  • Nathan Bensch, vice president of Microsoft Enterprise Services at enVista
  • Corey Hlavacek, senior director, information security at enVista

Highlights

enVista’s AI Focus and Security Opportunities (01:28)

enVista focuses on AI within the supply chain and retail industry, as well as for logistics companies; it’s helping companies understand AI, with some already using Microsoft Copilot, Bensch explains. Governance aspects are a significant part of their work, especially for warehousing and supply chain companies. Both speakers emphasize the importance of security around AI data.

Hlavacek discusses the long-awaited integration of AI in security technologies, particularly machine learning and GenAI. He highlights the use of Microsoft Copilot in incident response, helping to expedite the process and save time. Their session will cover proactive threat detection and incident response. AI’s benefits in security include summarizing incidents and taking action when incidents do occur.

Session Details and Key Learning Objectives (05:28)

Their session will address legal challenges and policy considerations in AI. They will discuss the importance of having policies in place, especially for AI governance. It will also cover legal compliance, security aspects, and the overall approach to building an AI policy. Hlavacek will provide more detailed insights into security-specific considerations.

AI Agent & Copilot Summit is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents. Building on its 2025 success, the 2026 event takes place March 17-19 in San Diego. Get more details.

Executive Buy-In and Policy Development (07:28)

Both speakers stress the importance of having executive buy-in for AI policies. They also explain the role of the legal department in developing and implementing AI policies. The session will provide practical advice on starting the journey of building an AI policy. Such policies need to strike a balance between enabling business objectives and maintaining security and compliance.

Challenges and Best Practices in AI Policy Development (09:45)

Common barriers to deploying AI sometimes include legal departments. Companies need a policy and a strategy for AI. That includes data governance in AI readiness; organizations need to be practiced in developing AI policies and strategies.

enVista’s experiences with AI reflect the importance of educational efforts. Hlavacek advises organizations to have a firm understanding of their information asset inventory. They discuss the challenges of managing data in different parts of the organization.
