Welcome to this Cloud Wars Agent and Copilot Minute. In these discussions, I’ll be analyzing opportunities, impact, and outcomes possible with AI; today I’m analyzing the latest iteration of Copilot, which is organized into Home, Code, and Autopilot, creating new opportunities for productivity and citizen development.
Highlights
00:15 — Home combines chat and Cowork while bringing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into Copilot. Code converts plain-language descriptions into working apps and automations. Autopilot, formerly known as Scout, is a persistent agent that continues working when users are away; it can manage follow-ups, for example. Copilot in Teams provides shared memory of past decisions. This direction shifts Copilot from an assistant users visit to the place where work happens.
01:07 — The new Copilot Managed Runtime hosts apps inside an organization’s Microsoft 365 environment under IT governance. Autopilot agents have their own identities and operate under organizational permissions and auditing. FinOps for AI provides team-level spending limits and usage visibility.
02:57 — Code brings citizen development directly into Copilot. The managed runtime supports apps built with Cowork, Code, and Copilot Studio. This all means that Power Platform centers of excellence can extend their existing Power Apps governance practices to a larger community of “makers.”
03:40 — Leaders should use this period to pilot with a governed group, define building and deployment permissions, establish FinOps limits, and assign each agent a named owner with least-privileged access.
